Munster Technological University, Ireland: Ranking, Courses, Fees, Admission 2024
Introduction
About the University
MTU was officially established on January 1, 2021, following the merger of two highly respected institutions: Cork Institute of Technology (CIT) and the Institute of Technology Tralee (IT Tralee). This merger combined the strengths and long histories of both institutes, creating a university that continues to serve the educational needs of the region with excellence.
Before this merger, CIT and IT Tralee were pivotal in providing quality education for decades. CIT’s roots date back to institutions like the Royal Cork Institution (1807–1861) and Crawford Municipal Technical Institute, founded in 1912. CIT itself was established as Cork Regional Technical College (Cork RTC) in 1974 before being renamed in 1997. Similarly, IT Tralee began its journey in 1977 as Tralee Regional Technical College and evolved into IT Tralee by 1997, reflecting a broader transformation of regional technical colleges across Ireland.
